Diane
Powers of Framesake Art employs a unique painting process
called "technique mixte" taught by Patrick Betaudier
of Atelier Neo Medici.
Paintings start with an accurate graphite rendering. Earthtone
tempera is added to create a dimensional underlayment upon
which colored oils are added.
Each painting is actually a series of illustration,
underlayment and multiple layers of colors.
This painstaking method of painting yields
a finished piece that has uncanny depth, dimension and luminosity
that has to be seen to be believed. The technique is centuries
old and has thought to have been used by the renaissance
master Jan Van Eyck.
